Turkey Reports NATO Defenses Intercept Iranian Missile

On March 30 Ankara reported a ballistic missile from Iran entered Turkish airspace. NATO defences intercepted and shot the missile down, the government said.

Officials described this as the fourth such incident since the start of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. Iran has denied specifically targeting Turkey in the conflict and denied involvement in prior launches.

NATO response

A NATO spokesperson confirmed the alliance intercepted a missile that was heading toward Turkey. The spokesperson said NATO is prepared for such threats and will defend its members.

Filmogaz.com notes the phrase Turkey Reports NATO Defenses Intercept Iranian Missile as a summary of the alliance statement. Ankara said it has evidence and has formally protested to Tehran.

Military posture in Turkey

Turkey did not specify the missile’s intended target. Its Defence Ministry said it was taking all necessary measures decisively and without hesitation.

Incirlik Air Base in Adana province hosts U.S., Turkish, Polish and Qatari personnel. U.S. staff also operate at the Kurecik radar site in Malatya, where NATO recently deployed a Patriot missile battery.

High-level consultations

Turkey’s Chief of the General Staff, General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, held a video call with NATO Military Committee Chair Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone. They discussed regional defence and security concerns.

Diplomatic context

The incident followed weekend talks in Islamabad. Top diplomats from Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia explored options to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Ankara has offered to mediate between Tehran and Washington prior to the conflict. It has repeatedly called for an end to hostilities and criticised the U.S.-Israeli attacks as illegal.

Turkey has also described Iran’s strikes on regional states as unacceptable. Officials warned Tehran against further missile firings into Turkish territory.
