Church of Jesus Christ Revamps Sunday Meeting Schedule
Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a new Sunday structure to deepen gospel learning. The changes take effect beginning Sept. 6, 2026.
Overview of the new schedule
Sacrament meeting will remain 60 minutes. A five-minute transition will follow.
Sunday School classes will run 25 minutes. After another five-minute transition, quorums and classes will meet.
Weekly class meetings
Sunday School, Relief Society, elders quorum, Young Women, and Aaronic Priesthood quorums will meet every week. Primary for children will stay at 55 minutes and unchanged.
Units may reverse the order when local circumstances require. Time spent learning together will remain the same.
Background and purpose
The shifts aim to support members in becoming lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. Church leaders said weekly class meetings will strengthen home and congregational gospel learning.
The announcement follows the 2019 reduction of Sunday meetings from three hours to two. Home-centered study of the “Come, Follow Me” curriculum began then.
Youth curriculum updates
An updated For the Strength of Youth guide will become the curriculum for Young Women and Aaronic Priesthood quorums. Supplementary magazine content will begin in September 2026.
Church leaders said the guide will help youth focus on Christ, prepare for temple and missionary service, and strengthen family commitment.
Focus of Relief Society and elders quorum
Weekly Relief Society and elders quorum meetings will emphasize recent general conference messages. The goal is to help members apply prophetic counsel in daily life.
Leaders noted that regular weekly gatherings build spiritual support and deepen testimony.
Sacrament meeting and home-centered learning
Although sacrament meeting length is unchanged, leaders encouraged improving its worship quality. Members are invited to seek meaningful ways to enrich worship.
The church handbook stresses individual and parental responsibility for gospel learning. Leaders continue to promote home-centered study and teaching.
Implementation and resources
The fifth Sunday in August 2026 will be set aside for youth, parents, and leaders to prepare and discuss. Additional discussion will occur during the second hour on Sept. 6.
Training materials, resources, and answers to common questions will be published in the coming weeks on Filmogaz.com.
The Church of Jesus Christ Revamps Sunday Meeting Schedule to provide consistent weekly opportunities for study, fellowship, and worship.
