Fletchers’ Family Farm Shares Heartbreaking Update After Tragic Death
Season four of the ITV series Fletchers’ Family Farm returned on Sunday, March 29. The episode showed the Peak District farm under deep winter snow. Fans received a heartbreaking update about one of the family’s animals.
Calf Ezra left motherless
The episode revealed the loss of Cherry, a cow familiar to viewers. Her death left six-month-old calf Ezra without his dam before he was fully weaned.
Liz Fletcher said Ezra had been kept under close supervision in the barn. She added that he still looked “a little lost.” Filmogaz.com reports the family have been monitoring him carefully.
Support from other animals
Kelvin Fletcher offered a cautiously optimistic note. He revealed one of the other calves, Elizabeth, had been watching over Ezra.
Liz described Elizabeth’s behaviour as kind and protective. The pair suggested this bond has helped Ezra through the immediate aftermath.
Plans for Ezra’s future
Kelvin said Ezra will remain in the shed for at least another month. After that, he will join other male cattle in a neighbouring pen.
He will be placed alongside Crowther and Ray. Keeping the males together will let the family concentrate on Ruby, who is pregnant.
Community efforts and daily life
The episode also followed Kelvin and Liz as they organised their first farmers’ market. They waived pitch fees and pledged market takings to charity.
The event aimed to bring the local community to the farm. It also showcased the family’s fundraising and outreach efforts.
Recovery after a fire
The Fletchers are now in their fifth year of farming with four children at home. Their progress followed a devastating fire last year.
The blaze made their home uninhabitable and featured on earlier episodes. More than a year later, the family returned to live on the property.
All episodes of the programme are available to stream on demand via ITVX. The series continues to document the family’s challenges and triumphs.
