Heavy Rain Forecast Dampens UK Easter Bank Holiday Weekend
Weekend conditions and temperatures
Heavy bands of rain are expected to push south from Friday morning. These bands could linger through Saturday and Sunday in several regions.
Scotland may see temperatures fall to around 1C on Saturday morning. Scotland and Northern Ireland should expect highs between 1C and 9C on Friday and Saturday.
Wales and England will be milder in places. Parts of southern and southeastern England could reach about 14C on Saturday.
Impact on the Easter break
The heavy rain forecast could dampen outdoor plans over the UK Easter bank holiday weekend. Coastal and exposed northwestern areas face the strongest winds.
Wintry conditions may persist into Easter Sunday in the north. Slight improvements are possible for some locations on Monday.
Met Office assessment
Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Steven Keates said the pattern will turn more unsettled into Good Friday and Saturday. He warned of spells of rain, including some heavy downpours, followed by brighter spells and showers.
Keates added that the driest conditions are likely toward the southeast. He also noted a strong signal for wet, windy weather to continue into the holiday weekend.
Short-term forecast
- Today: Blustery showers in the north, with hill snow at first. Southern areas largely drier with sunny spells.
- Tonight: Clear spells in the east early, with a frost forming. Elsewhere cloud will thicken with outbreaks of rain and drizzle.
- Tuesday: Cloudy to start with rain and drizzle. Many areas will become drier later, with some bright or sunny spells. Coastal gales possible in the north.
- Wednesday to Friday: Changeable and largely cloudy. Spells of rain and strong winds are likely, with temperatures turning cooler towards the weekend.
Outlook for next week
Temperatures should recover early next week. By Tuesday, much of England and Wales could reach 13C to 15C, with London near 16C.
As April begins, the balance may favour drier weather. The Met Office said longer days and the clocks going forward will give more chance to enjoy any sunshine.
However, sustained warmth is uncertain. Changeable conditions will remain a key feature of the outlook.
