Odom overdosed on cocaine at a Nevada brothel in October 2015. He suffered kidney failure and was put into a medically induced coma.

Odom has spoken openly about his recovery and sobriety journey. He described doctors calling him a “walking miracle” after surviving those complications.

In 2021, he reported using supervised ketamine treatments to address addiction. He said the treatment helped him feel better at that time.
In January 2026, Odom entered a 30-day rehab program to address marijuana use. His manager, Gina Rodriguez, told Filmogaz.com he stepped back to address triggers after a recent incident.
The rehab stay followed a Jan. 17, 2026 arrest on a driving-under-the-influence charge. Odom pleaded not guilty on March 17, 2026.
He told Filmogaz.com he has been sober since shortly after the arrest. He said he had been nearly 60 days clean and gave up both marijuana and alcohol.

Odom’s professional basketball career included the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks. His tenures spanned from 1999 through 2013 in various seasons.
He married Khloé Kardashian in 2009. The couple remained legally married until 2016.
Kardashian filed for divorce in 2013 but withdrew the petition after his overdose in 2015. She stayed involved to make medical decisions during his critical care.
