Resident Evil Requiem: Full Review, How Long to Beat, and Everything You Need to Know
Resident Evil Requiem — RE9 — is out now. Released Friday, February 27, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, the game is already one of the most acclaimed entries in the franchise's 30-year history. OpenCritic places the game at 88/100 with 95% of critics recommending it. Here is the complete breakdown.
Resident Evil Requiem Reviews: "A Soaring Piece of Survival Horror Theater"
GamesRadar awarded it their highest praise, calling Resident Evil Requiem "a soaring piece of survival horror theater." PC Gamer's verdict was equally enthusiastic. Requiem sets itself out with a hard task: wrapping all the best elements of previous Resident Evil games into one — and miraculously it succeeds, with very few moments which left me wanting more.
Requiem has now made it into my top Resi games and will be a game I'll replay almost as much as RE4. The consensus is clear — Capcom has delivered one of the franchise's finest entries right on its 30th anniversary.
Two Protagonists, Two Completely Different Games in One
Requiem is basically two different games sharing one body. Grace's half plays like a slow burn psychological horror experience in the tradition of Resident Evil 7. Leon's chapters, by contrast, lean hard into the action-forward design of Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Playing as Grace, the emphasis is on evasion, stealth, and resource scarcity. She begins the game with almost nothing and has to scrape together whatever she can find. Her inventory is a cramped eight-slot bag reminiscent of classic Resident Evil, which means every item pickup becomes a strategic decision. The alternating structure keeps the pacing relentless from start to finish.
How Long Is Resident Evil Requiem? All Playtime Breakdowns
Resident Evil Requiem can be completed within 9 to 12 hours in total for a single standard playthrough. Our review playthrough came in at just under 9 hours — 8 hours and 53 minutes to be exact — which was a pretty thorough experience of the campaign with time dedicated to both the linear narrative path and taking time to explore in search of major collectibles.
Here is the full breakdown by playstyle:
| Playstyle | Estimated Time |
|---|---|
| Speedrun / Speed Demon Trophy | Under 4 hours |
| Main Story (Casual) | 7–8 hours |
| Main Story (Standard) | 9–12 hours |
| Main Story (Classic/Insanity) | 12–16 hours |
| Completionist (all trophies) | 25–40 hours |
Anyone looking to get 100% and unlock all trophies can most likely expect to do at least three to four playthroughs of the game taking on its various challenges.
The Speed Demon Trophy: Beat the Entire Game in Under 4 Hours
It is possible to finish Resident Evil Requiem in about 3–4 hours on a speedrun. This gives you a lot of leeway to achieve Speed Demon, which is unlocked by choosing to release Elpis within 4 hours. After your first playthrough, each subsequent run will become shorter and shorter as you master puzzle solutions and take down hordes of zombies like it's going out of style.
What New Game Plus and DLC Unlock After the Campaign
There are lots of collectibles and currencies, such as Mr. Raccoon memoriams, files and documents, and Antique Coins. If you want to obtain all the weapons in the game as Leon, you need to amass thousands of credits. Requiem has no additional modes like Mercenaries at the time of writing, although they may arrive later as free or paid DLC.
Once you get the RPG with unlimited ammo, it will be worth every single second. Resident Evil Requiem is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
