Fire Tv Mobile App New Features turn your phone into a true second screen
At CES 2026 in January, Amazon previewed a complete redesign of the Fire TV interface and a revamp of the free mobile app for iOS and Android; the company has now started rolling out the fire tv mobile app new features that turn the phone app from a backup remote into a full second-screen experience.
Fire Tv Mobile App New Features on phones worldwide
The updated Fire TV app is rolling out on Android and iOS in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan and India, and the update is already live on the US App Store. Amazon says the new features will become available gradually "over the next weeks, " so users who update but don’t immediately see changes may need to wait a little longer. If you haven’t downloaded the Fire TV app before, you can get it for free on the App Store and Google Play Store.
What you can do now from your phone
Where the app was previously "basically just a backup remote, " the new release lets you browse the same content you see on your Fire TV, queue up shows and movies to watch on your TV, manage your watchlist and launch titles directly on the TV. That means a friend’s recommendation added to your watchlist while you’re out will be waiting on the TV when you get home.
Design changes mirror the new Fire TV interface
Amazon rebuilt the app to match the redesigned Fire TV UI. The company moved the navigation bar from the middle of the screen to the top and created a new home screen that lets users pin up to 20 of their most-used apps, up from a previous limit of six. Amazon describes the redesign as delivering "a more modern design with improved layouts, rounded corners, redesigned color gradients, updated typography, and more optimized spacing, " and that same design language carries over into the mobile update.
How the app feels and who it resembles
The refreshed Fire TV app is intended to feel like an extension of the TV rather than a simple companion. The author noted the new app "actually reminds me a lot of Roku's mobile app, " which also doubles as a backup remote and lets users browse and launch content on the TV.
Which devices get the redesigned Fire TV interface
The redesigned Fire TV interface has already started rolling out in the US, but it is currently limited to users with the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen) and Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series. Amazon says it plans to expand the new UI to more devices and additional countries later this spring.
Amazon explained in a blog post, "Millions of customers use our Fire TV mobile app as a backup remote, but we knew it could do more. " The company added, "Now you can use your phone as a second screen to discover what to watch next or add a friend's show recommendation to your watchlist when you’re away from home. "
For now, the rollout is staggered: the new Fire TV interface began rolling out last week in the US with a cleaner look, improved layouts and smoother performance on Fire TV, and the mobile app update is following that preview to bring the same visuals and functionality to phones. Amazon plans to expand both the app’s availability and the redesigned interface in the weeks and months ahead.
