Frozen Blueberries Recalled: frozen blueberries recalled in Class 1 Listeria alert
Federal regulators announced frozen blueberries recalled after officials warned the product could pose a life-threatening Listeria risk. Oregon Potato Company, a family-owned business in Salem that specializes in frozen and dehydrated potatoes, vegetables, and fruits, flagged 55, 689 pounds of individually quick-frozen blueberries, and regulators said roughly 55, 000 pounds are affected.
Frozen Blueberries Recalled Scope
The initial notice was made on Feb. 12, and regulators upgraded the action on Tuesday to a Class 1 recall, the most serious risk level. Officials warned that exposure to the potential Listeria monocytogenes "could cause serious adverse health consequences or death. "
Where product was distributed
The product was distributed across several U. S. states, including Michigan, Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin, and it was also distributed throughout Canada. The blueberries were not sold directly to consumers in retail stores but were moved between businesses within the supply chain.
Packaging, lot codes and dates
Affected items include 30-pound cases with expiration dates from July 23, 2027, to July 24, 2027, bearing lot codes 2055 B2, 2065 B1 and 2065 B3. Those cases are packaged in polyethylene bags within corrugated cases, described as a specialized dual-layered design. Regulators also identified 1, 400-pound totes with lot codes 3305 A1 and 3305 B1, both expiring on Nov. 25, 2027; those totes are packaged in polyethylene liners within Gaylord totes, heavy-duty industrial-grade plastic bags placed in large bulk-shipping containers.
Health risk and transmission
L. monocytogenes is generally transmitted where food is harvested and processed in manufacturing or production environments. The notice reiterated that Listeria monocytogenesis is a disease-causing bacteria that can cause foodborne illness, producing symptoms such as fever, diarrhea and vomiting.
Recall status and related recalls
The recall was initiated by email and remains ongoing. The coverage of this action appeared alongside other recall notices, including a headline noting more than 191, 000 AROEVE air purifiers recalled over overheating and fire risk, and a separate recall issued for more than 12, 000 adult bed rails over entrapment and a reported "risk of death. " A sign for the Food and Drug Administration was noted outside the headquarters on July 20, 2020, in White Oak, Maryland.
