No Repeat Weekend and the setlist promise

The residency will continue the No Repeat Weekend format Metallica introduced with the 2023 launch of the M72 World Tour: no songs will be repeated on each Thursday and Saturday pairing throughout the run. The band said the engagement will feature live staples and surprises spanning the Metallica catalog, keeping Thursday–Saturday pairings unique for attendees across the eight dates.

The production is billed as enhanced by Sphere’s immersive technologies. The venue’s systems include a high-resolution LED display that wraps up, over and around the audience, Sphere Immersive Sound that delivers targeted audio to attendees, and multi-sensory 4D technology. The residency is produced by Live Nation and presented by inKind. inKind is described as an app-based rewards and financing partner that offers dining credits and financing to participating restaurants while providing enhanced experiences for fans at events.

Band context, Las Vegas history and lead-up

Metallica’s classic lineup of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo will headline the run. The band closes its M72 world tour on July 5 in London, leaving time to build the Sphere production. Metallica would be the first heavy metal band to play Sphere; they were also the first metal band to play Allegiant Stadium in February 2022. Production at Sphere would coincide with the 40th anniversary of Master of Puppets, the band’s first gold album.

The band teased the residency on social media by blasting Metallica’s logo and the song “No Leaf Clover. ” All band members made an unbilled, attempted covert appearance at Sphere for the Eagles show on Jan. 30 as a scouting mission.

What the band said and next confirmed steps

Metallica co-founder and drummer Lars Ulrich said the idea took hold early: “About 12 seconds into the opening night of Sphere with U2 back in ’23, I thought ‘We have to do this, it’s completely uncharted territory!’” He added, “This residency gives us another chance to reinvent how we interact with our fans in a live setting. We are beyond excited to share this with the world in six months time, and way fuckin’ psyched to go next level!”

The next confirmed milestones are the SiriusXM presale beginning March 5 at 10 a. m. PT (1 p. m. ET) and the general on-sale at 10 a. m. PT (1 p. m. ET) on March 6; fans can also tune into the new monthly show Tallica Talk on SiriusXM’s Maximum Metallica, with a premiere that focused on the Sphere announcement on Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 4–5 p. m. PT / 7–8 p. m. ET.
