Shea Theodore scored in the third period to pull Canada even in the Olympic semifinal, and Canada beat Finland 3-2 at the Milano Cortina Winter Games to reach the gold medal game.
Shea Theodore ties semifinal, lifts Canada into gold medal game
Theodore, playing in his Olympic debut, scored in the third period with just under 10 minutes to go to tie the game against Finland, and Canada finished the match with a 3-2 victory that sent the team to the gold medal game.
Sam Reinhart opened Canada’s scoring in the second period, and Nathan MacKinnon delivered the game-winner with 35 seconds remaining; the semifinal result was published on Feb. 20, 2026.
From Aldergrove and Kent to Milano Cortina
Theodore, a defenceman from Aldergrove who played junior hockey with the Kent-based Seattle Thunderbirds from 2010 to 2015 at the accesso ShoWare Center, has added an Olympic goal to a long international résumé that includes gold medals at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship and the 2013 IIHF World U18 Championship and a silver at the 2019 IIHF World Championship.
He missed additional games at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February 2025 after injuring his wrist in the first game but returned to win gold at the 2025 Four Nations Face-Off; at the NHL level he helped the Vegas Golden Knights capture the Stanley Cup in 2022-23 with 13 points (one goal, 12 assists) in 21 playoff games and later signed a seven-year, $51. 97 million contract on Oct. 24, 2024.
In August 2023, after the Stanley Cup win, he brought the Cup home to Aldergrove and drew an estimated 2, 000 fans to the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre for a hometown celebration.
What’s next for Canada and Theodore
Canada will advance to the gold medal game to face the winner of the second semifinal between the United States and Slovakia, with the gold medal game scheduled for Feb. 22; Canada and the United States are considered the favorites for that matchup.
Canada opened tournament play against Czechia on Feb. 12, and Theodore’s tying goal in the semifinal completes his Olympic debut scoring line as the team prepares for the single-elimination final on Feb. 22.
