PlayStation Shuts Down Bluepoint Games, Studio Behind Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus
PlayStation has shut down bluepoint games, the studio best known for remakes of Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, a move that will affect roughly 70 employees and follows a company business review, a PlayStation spokesperson said.
Bluepoint Games closure confirmed
The closure will take effect next month and will result in about 70 staff losing their jobs,; the studio was founded in 2006 and was acquired by PlayStation in 2021. A PlayStation spokesperson praised the team's technical work, saying, “Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community, ” and added, “We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship. ”
Work on remakes and a canceled live-service God of War project
Bluepoint Games earned its reputation for high-profile remakes including Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls; the Demon's Souls remake launched alongside the PS5, and the studio also assisted other PlayStation teams on projects such as God of War Ragnarök. The most recent internal news was work on a live-service game set in the God of War universe, which was canceled in January 2025 before it was ever revealed publicly.
What and immediate consequences
PlayStation attributed the decision to close the studio to "a recent business review, " the spokesperson said, while thanking employees for their contributions. With Bluepoint Games shuttering, roughly 70 people will be directly affected when the closure becomes official next month, and ongoing co-development or support roles the studio held will be shifted or ended as part of the shutdown.
Bluepoint was founded in 2006 and had worked on collections and ports as well as full remakes; under PlayStation ownership since 2021, it completed remakes that drew critical acclaim and supported larger releases from other studios.
The next confirmed event on this matter is the studio’s formal closure next month, when the announced layoffs and administrative steps tied to the shutdown will take effect.
