ATS Euromaster Shutters 86 UK Branches, Threatens 700 Jobs
ATS Euromaster has revealed its intention to cease operations in the UK, which will impact 86 of its least profitable service centres in 2025. This decision puts 703 jobs at risk across various locations, including the head office and call centre.
Closure of Service Centres
The garage chain plans to shut down its operations following a prolonged period of cost-cutting measures. The closure will affect eight-six service centres, rendering the remaining network too small to remain competitive and economically viable.
Potential Buyers and Job Security
As part of its strategy, ATS Euromaster is actively pursuing two interested buyers. The company aims to sell 35 of its 152 sites to Formula One Autocentres and 14 to S&M Tyres, which operates under the name Elite Garages. This initiative aims to safeguard as many jobs as possible.
- Number of sites closing: 86
- Jobs at risk: 703
- Remaining sites after closures: 103
Management’s Statement
Nick Harley, the group managing director, expressed his sadness regarding the situation, describing it as a “sad and difficult moment.” He highlighted the challenges posed by intense competition and rising costs, which have left the company with no viable path to break even.
Employee Support and Assistance
ATS Euromaster has committed to treating all employees fairly during this transition. The management intends to provide a support package that includes a 24-hour assistance programme and specialized outplacement services for affected staff.
The branches set for closure will continue their operations throughout the consultation period, expected to end in April 2025. If the plans are finalized, the last trading day for these centres will be May 1, 2025.
Future of Mobile Services
A separate proposal suggests transferring 13 mobile night technicians to Tructyre, a branch of the Euromaster Group focused on mobile tyre services for commercial vehicles.
It is essential to note that these closures will only affect ATS Euromaster’s operations within the UK, leaving other segments of the wider Euromaster Group untouched.
