Iași Lawyer Jailed for Attempted Murder of Motorcyclist
An incident involving an attorney in Iași has led to a severe legal outcome. Alexandra Cioată has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the attempted murder of a motorcyclist. This verdict was issued by the Iași Court of Appeal after three consecutive postponements of the case.
Details of the Incident
The attempted murder occurred on the evening of May 30 of the previous year, around 10 PM. Cioată was stopped at a traffic light on Nicolina Road, at the intersection with Sălciilor Street. A motorcyclist identified as A.I.V. was stationary in the first lane beside her.
After the light turned green, Cioată accelerated her vehicle. Despite being in the second lane, she dangerously veered into the first lane, directly approaching the motorcycle. When the motorcyclist attempted to accelerate to evade her, Cioată followed suit. As he changed lanes, she did the same.
Shortly thereafter, Cioată’s Mercedes collided with the motorcycle, striking its rear wheel. This caused the motorcyclist to lose his balance and fall. Remarkably, Cioată did not stop her vehicle, continuing her path without any regard for the accident.
Legal Repercussions
- Sentenced to seven years in prison.
- Required to pay 13,820 lei in court expenses.
- Ordered to compensate the victim with 20,000 euros for moral damages.
The court, however, rejected the prosecutor’s proposal to confiscate Cioată’s car involved in the incident. This decision is not final and can be appealed to the High Court of Cassation and Justice.
Victim’s Testimony
The victim, Alexandru, recounted the incident after returning home from a night out with friends. He expressed confusion about why Cioată acted aggressively towards him, insisting that he had not provoked her in any way. His testimony reflects the unexpected and violent nature of the encounter.
The case highlights significant issues surrounding road safety and the responsibilities of drivers. It also raises questions about the behavior of individuals in positions of authority, such as legal professionals.
