In 2025, Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) achieved a significant milestone by transporting over 14 million passengers across the nation. This success represents a remarkable 7.1% increase from the previous year, facilitated by SAR’s operation of more than 45,000 trips.
Impact of Hajj on Passenger Numbers
A key contributor to the record passenger number was the nearly 2 million pilgrims who traveled during the Hajj season. Many of these travelers relied on the Haramain High-Speed Railway for their journey between the Holy Cities of Makkah and Madinah. Freight Operations

Looking toward the future, SAR has announced an exciting project named “Dream of the Desert.” Set to be the kingdom’s first ultra-luxury train service, it is expected to begin operations in late 2026. This luxurious experience will offer one- and two-night journeys starting from Riyadh.
