Northern Beaches Athletes Shine at Winter Olympics

The Northern Beaches community is celebrating the achievements of local athletes competing at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina. With competitions continuing until February 22, these athletes showcase exceptional talent and determination on a global stage.

Northern Beaches Athletes Competing at the Winter Olympics

Several athletes from the Northern Beaches are proudly representing Australia:

  • Danielle Scott – A resident of Freshwater, Danielle is a four-time Olympian known for her remarkable prowess in aerial skiing.
  • Madison Hoffman – Known as Madi, this Manly local is making her Olympic debut in both slalom and giant slalom after an inspiring recovery from injury.
  • Amelie Haskell – Hailing from Avalon, 18-year-old Amelie is competing for the first time in the snowboard halfpipe.
  • George Murphy – Also making his Olympic debut, George is a mogul skier who grew up in Manly and continues to surf there.
  • Hektor Giotopoulos Moore – Raised in Balgowlah and Melbourne, Hektor is now competing in the figure skating pairs event with partner Anastasiia Golubeva.

Honoring Local Sporting Excellence

To honor the achievements of its athletes, the Northern Beaches community has several recognition programs. The Sporting Excellence Recognition Program celebrates outstanding sporting accomplishments by local athletes.

In 2000, the Manly Pathway of Olympians and Paralympians was established to commemorate Olympians linked to Manly. The pathway now features brass plaques honoring local Olympians from across the Northern Beaches. Noteworthy former Winter Olympians include:

  • Zali Steggall – Alpine skiing
  • Zeke Stegall – Snowboarding
  • Sami Kennedy-Sim – Ski cross
  • Emma Lincoln-Smith – Skeleton
  • Sam Hall – Freestyle skiing moguls
  • Davina Williams – Freestyle skiing halfpipe
  • Maria Despas – Freestyle skiing moguls

Additionally, the Northern Beaches Sporting Honour Roll recognizes athletes who have represented Australia in Olympic and non-Olympic sports. Nominations are reviewed regularly for those who have resided on the Northern Beaches for at least five years before selection.
