Global Youth Experience Carnaval at Palais de Bonhomme for First Time
On Wednesday morning, a group of international youths experienced the thrill of the Quebec Carnaval for the first time. This special event took place at the Palais de Bonhomme, allowing them to explore the magic of winter. Participants included around 45 students from various backgrounds, collaborating on a unique project as part of a partnership with De Rochebelle Secondary School.
Global Youth Experience at Carnaval
Among the attendees was Ela Milaji, a student from Syria who shared her awe at the ice sculptures. “I’ve been in Quebec for three years, but it’s my first time at Carnaval. It’s incredible to see what can be created with ice,” she remarked.
Connecting through Culture
Guided by facilitators from a francization program, the initiative encouraged these youth to express their stories through an original winter legend. They witnessed their artistic creations come to life as spectacular ice sculptures.
- Number of Participants: 45 youths
- Countries Represented: 22
Lina Lavadi from Morocco appreciated the experience, stating, “It was unforgettable to see our work featured in one of the largest carnivals in the world.” The proud faces of the participants reflected their joy as they watched their drawings transformed into beautiful ice sculptures, which were even displayed publicly.
First Winter Experience
For some, this was their first encounter with winter. Samah Mourra from Sudan expressed her delight: “I didn’t think I could get used to the cold, but you adapt.” She was particularly amazed by the grandeur of the ice castle.
Bianca Smith, an intercultural school agent, highlighted the project’s role in promoting integration. She noted that it helped participants reflect on their pre-arrival perceptions of winter compared to their current experiences. “By involving them in creating stories and working together, we are igniting interest in both Carnaval and Quebec’s winter culture,” she said.
This enriching experience not only brought diversity to the Carnaval but also fostered community and cultural appreciation among the participants.
