Mandy Moore’s Family Returns to Restored Altadena Home
Mandy Moore and her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, have returned to their renovated home in Altadena after overcoming a devastating fire. In June 2020, the couple purchased a historic 1931 Spanish Colonial Revival property, embarking on a five-year renovation journey. The house was designed to fit their family’s needs with creativity and style.
Restoration Journey
Moore and Goldsmith were initially attracted to the property because of its unique charm and potential. However, the home came with challenges, including a mismatched kitchen renovation and a guesthouse in need of restoration. They engaged a talented team, including architect Emily Farnham and designer Sarah Sherman Samuel, to help realize their vision.
- The spacious kitchen features custom cabinetry with Benjamin Moore’s Jade Romanesque paint.
- Walls are adorned with color and texture, including Color Atelier’s Whispering Blue Limewash.
- A custom mural by Sammy Hauschild decorates the nursery.
By November 2023, the family, now with two young boys and a daughter named Lou, was ready to settle into their reimagined home.
Facing Adversity
Tragically, in January, the family had to evacuate due to an approaching wildfire. Despite the ominous conditions, they managed to escape safely but were informed that parts of their home had been damaged. Amazingly, the main structure survived, but many personal belongings were lost. The hit was particularly hard for their music studio, which was destroyed.
Community Support
As the smoke cleared, the couple reflected on the outpouring of support from their community. Moore expressed gratitude for the resilience shown by neighbors during such trying times. “It was gutting to be here before the lots were cleared,” she said, highlighting the loss experienced by many.
Return and Rebuilding
The couple embarked on a meticulous restoration project to bring their home back to life. This process involved removing damaged items, including furniture and textiles, and conducting thorough safety inspections.
- All soft goods were discarded, necessitating a comprehensive cleanup.
- The reconstruction ensured the space would be safe for their children.
By September, they were back home, feeling a deep connection to their community and the foothills of Altadena. Plans are now underway to finish their ADU and create a new music studio for Goldsmith.
A Bright Future
Today, the family enjoys their revitalized garden and family-friendly spaces. As rebuilding continues in the neighborhood, Moore and Goldsmith remain optimistic about their home and community. With shared determination, their story serves as a testament to resilience and hope.
