Mazda 6 Electric Hits UK This Summer, Matches Tesla Model 3 Pricing

The upcoming Mazda 6e is set to enter UK showrooms this summer. This sleek, rear-wheel-drive electric fastback aims to compete directly with the Tesla Model 3, starting at £38,995.

Specifications and Features

The Mazda 6e will be available in the UK with two trim levels: Takumi and Takumi Plus. Both trims share a single powertrain, differing from the offerings in Europe and China.

  • Battery: 78kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP)
  • Range: 348 miles (most efficient configuration)
  • Power: 255bhp from a rear-mounted motor
  • Acceleration: 0-62mph in 7.6 seconds
  • Charging: 10-80% in 24 minutes with a 195kW DC rapid charger

In comparison, the European model features two powertrain options, including a base variant with a 68.8kWh battery, offering 300 miles of range and 0-62 in 7.8 seconds. The top variant has 254bhp with an 80kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery, achieving a range of 345 miles.

Standard and Optional Features

The Mazda 6e comes equipped with several advanced features:

  • Heat pump
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Head-up display
  • Powered tailgate
  • Electronically adjustable front seats

The Takumi Plus trim adds premium features like nappa leather upholstery, a panoramic glass roof, and titanium detailing.

Design and Performance

Revealed in early 2025, the Mazda 6e exemplifies the evolution of Mazda’s Kodo design language. It features a low roofline, frameless doors, and distinctive LED lights that resemble ‘wings’ to show battery status during charging.

This model also boasts an active rear spoiler and elegant 19-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the design departs from tradition, moving most controls to a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, reducing the number of physical buttons significantly.

Target Market

The Mazda 6e was developed with input from Mazda’s joint-venture partner, Changan, to cater to the tastes of buyers in China, where it is known as the EZ-6. By offering a unique setup in the UK, Mazda aims to balance performance, range, and efficient charging.

As the competition in the electric vehicle market heightens, the Mazda 6e positions itself as a compelling alternative to the Tesla Model 3, delivering style, performance, and advanced technology.
