Global Market Insights
In international markets, the previous session saw a decline in both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average managed a 0.1 percent increase, marking a third consecutive record closure. This reaction came as investors absorbed disappointing retail sales data ahead of a critical labor market report.
The December retail sales report revealed stagnant consumer spending, contrary to economists’ predictions of a 0.4 percent monthly increase. Specifically, the S&P 500 dropped by 0.33 percent, and the Nasdaq Composite fell by 0.59 percent.
MSCI Index Adjustments
As part of the February 2026 MSCI index review, two companies, Aditya Birla Capital and L&T Finance, have been included in the MSCI Global Standard Index. Meanwhile, IRCTC was excluded from the index. Due to a float adjustment, AU Small Finance Bank will see an increased weight, keeping India’s overall weight in the MSCI Standard Index steady at 14.1 percent. The total number of Indian firms in the index has risen to 165 from 164.
