N.S. Power Chief Reassigned Amid Cyberattack Probes

The president of Nova Scotia Power, Peter Gregg, is being reassigned amid ongoing investigations related to a significant cyberattack. Effective March 1, 2024, he will transition to a new role as executive vice president of strategy and policy at Emera, the utility’s parent company.

Leadership Transition at Nova Scotia Power

In his new position, Gregg will focus on overseeing corporate strategy, government relations, and sustainability efforts. The company emphasized that he will leverage his extensive experience in the energy sector and strategic leadership skills.

Cyberattack Probes and Customer Impact

This leadership change occurs during a critical period for the utility. The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board is conducting a two-part inquiry regarding a cyberattack that compromised the personal information of approximately 280,000 customers. The inquiry aims to uncover the details behind last year’s breach and prevent future incidents.

New Leadership to Oversee Upcoming Changes

Gregg’s successor, Viivek Sood, has a robust background as a senior leader with Sobeys and the Empire group of companies. He also holds a position on the Nova Scotia Power board since June 2024. Sood will lead the utility while it seeks approval for a proposed residential rate increase of around eight percent in the coming year.
