Woman Charged with Possessing Stolen Ton of Copper in Tomago
Authorities have charged a woman after discovering a considerable quantity of suspected stolen copper wire in Tomago. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon around 4:50 PM.
Details of the Incident
Police received reports about suspicious activity on School Drive. Officers from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District responded swiftly. Upon arrival, they encountered a 40-year-old woman next to a parked vehicle.
Evidence Found
During the search of the vehicle, officers allegedly uncovered:
- Approximately one tonne of copper wire
- Bolt cutters
- A credit card belonging to another individual
Based on these findings, the woman was arrested. She was then transported to Raymond Terrace Police Station, where she was charged with possessing goods suspected to be stolen.
Court Proceedings
Initially, she was refused bail. However, she later appeared in Bail Court and received conditional bail.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have seized the woman’s vehicle for forensic examination. Investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the stolen copper wire.
