OM System OM-3 Astro Captures Stunning Nebulae Images

OM System has introduced the OM-3 Astro, a specialized camera tailored for astrophotography enthusiasts. This advanced version of the OM-3 boasts features designed to enhance the capture of stunning nebulae images.

Key Features of the OM-3 Astro

The OM-3 Astro is equipped with a 20.4-megapixel stacked BSI Micro Four Thirds image sensor. A modified infrared (IR) cut filter enhances red wavelengths, allowing for vivid imaging of nebulae, which are often challenging for standard cameras to capture. This enhancement allows for 100% transmission of Hα light, crucial for bringing out the intricate colors and forms of nebulae.

Advanced Functionality

  • Starry Sky AF: Automates the focus on stars, eliminating tedious manual adjustments.
  • Live Composite Mode: Enables light painting without overexposing highlights.
  • Night Vision Mode: Features a red overlay for the user interface, aiding in preserving night vision.
  • High-Res Composite Shooting: Creates 50-megapixel images by combining up to 12 shots, enhancing detail and reducing noise.

The camera includes preset modes on the mode dial: C1 for astrophotography stacking, C2 for starry landscapes, and C3 for handheld starry landscape shooting.

New Filters for Enhanced Astrophotography

Alongside the OM-3 Astro, OM System has launched two innovative filters that integrate with the camera.

  • BMF-LPC01 Body Mount Light Pollution Suppression Filter: Reduces light pollution effects, especially useful for photographing celestial bodies near the horizon.
  • BMF-SE01 Body Mount Soft Filter: Enhances point light sources, giving stars a more prominent and colorful appearance.

These filters are compatible not only with the OM-3 Astro but also with other models including the standard OM-3, OM-1, OM-1 II, and Olympus E-M1 Mark III.

Pricing and Release Information

The OM System OM-3 Astro will be available in March at a price of $2,499.99 in the United States and $2,999.99 in Canada. The new filters will also launch next month. The BMF-LPC01 is priced at $339.99 ($399.99 CAD), while the BMF-SE01 will retail for $229.99 ($279.99 CAD).
