Air Transat Launches Direct Flights to Rio from Toronto and Montreal

Air Transat has officially launched direct flights from Toronto and Montreal to Rio de Janeiro, enhancing travel options for Canadians. These inaugural flights commenced last week, with services from Toronto starting on Wednesday and from Montreal on Thursday.

New Routes Overview

The direct flight schedule is as follows:

  • Toronto to Rio de Janeiro: Operates twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays until June 10.
  • Montreal to Rio de Janeiro: Runs once a week on Thursdays until June 4.

Both routes are serviced by the Airbus A330, ensuring a comfortable travel experience for passengers. This initiative makes Air Transat the sole airline offering non-stop flights from Montreal to Rio de Janeiro.

Significance and Impact

According to Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer of Transat, launching these routes marks a significant expansion in their South American offerings. He emphasized the new routes foster connectivity between Canada and Brazil.

“These flights create a direct bridge, allowing for cultural exchanges and family reunions,” Ponce stated. This direct connection enhances accessibility to Rio’s dynamic environment for Canadian travelers.

Collaboration with GOL Airlines

Travelers using Air Transat’s new route can also take advantage of an interline partnership with GOL Airlines. This collaboration facilitates smooth onward travel from Galeão International Airport (GIG) to various destinations across Brazil and South America.

Connecting with Brazil

Passengers can now reach several major cities in Brazil, including:

  • São Paulo
  • Porto Alegre
  • Recife
  • Salvador
  • Belo Horizonte

These direct flights enhance the appeal of Rio de Janeiro as a travel destination, reinforcing its status on the global stage, according to Alexandre Monteiro, CEO of RIOgaleão airport.
