Bridgnorth Rescue Centre Temporarily Shuts Down After £50,000 Weather Damage

Severn Valley Rescue, an animal sanctuary located in Billingsley, Bridgnorth, has temporarily closed due to severe weather damage exceeding £50,000. Recent storms have inflicted what the center describes as “the wettest weather we have ever faced.” This has resulted in significant destruction, including broken fences, collapsed gates, and waterlogged fields.

Impact of the Damage

The damage at the rescue center has led to its closure just before the half-term holiday. This has raised concerns about the future of the sanctuary, which cares for various animals, including donkeys, dogs, alpacas, pigs, and ponies, many of which are disabled.

Fundraising Appeal Launched

In response to the crisis, Severn Valley Rescue has initiated a fundraising campaign. The aim is to raise the necessary funds to repair the extensive damage before Easter. The center is seeking both donations and volunteer assistance.

Amanda Ball, a representative for the sanctuary, expressed her deep concern. She announced the cancellation of the February half-term open days and stated that refunds would be issued to those who had booked. Her emotional social media update highlighted the severity of the situation:

  • “After assessing the ground conditions, we cannot safely open to the public.”
  • “We need about £50,000 for repairs, and it seems a challenging target.”
  • “I hope we can pull together to make it through.”

Call for Community Support

Ball emphasized the importance of community involvement. She is hopeful that through collective efforts, Severn Valley Rescue can overcome the challenges it faces. Updates on the specific types of assistance required will be shared in the coming week.

To support Severn Valley Rescue, contributions can be made through their fundraising page: Winter Recovery Fund.
