Seventeen-year-old Zeger from the Netherlands is determined to complete the construction of a youth center in Aghaiani, Georgia. Alongside his father, Gerwin, and volunteer Ruud Stitselaar, Zeger has spent significant time working on this project to aid local youth.

Challenges During Construction
The initial stages of the construction were grueling. Zeger and his team tackled debris removal and endured hot weather while mixing mortar for the building’s foundation. Despite the delays post-departure of the main group, Zeger and his father returned to Georgia in October 2024 to push the project forward.
They found themselves working closely with local builders and addressing plumbing needs, which added valuable skills to Zeger’s toolkit. The project faced hurdles, but persistence paid off, with Zeger noting the importance of their ongoing efforts.
Building Connections
The relationship between Zeger and his father strengthened throughout this experience. They embarked on a hiking adventure in the Caucasus, which reinforced their bond. In July 2025, they returned to Georgia again, this time accompanied by families who had supported their mission.
This return was not only for the completion of the youth center but also to engage in the summer camp activities with local youths. Zeger emphasizes the significance of creating lasting connections with the community, stating, “The bond you build never goes away.”
Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, Zeger expresses a desire to travel further. After completing school, he envisions backpacking in the Dolomites. He aims to maintain his focus on humanitarian efforts while pursuing his ambition of starting his own construction business.
The youth center’s expected summer opening marks a significant achievement for Zeger and his supporters. It not only symbolizes personal growth but also reflects a commitment to helping the local community thrive.
