Police Confirm Missing TV Host’s Mother Still Missing
Investigators are intensifying their search for Nancy Guthrie, the abducted mother of TV host Savannah Guthrie. Four days after her disappearance, authorities presume she is still alive. However, a suspect has yet to be identified.
Search Intensifies for Missing TV Host’s Mother
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on January 31, 2026, when family members dropped her off at her home near Tucson after dinner. She was reported missing around noon the following day, with investigators quickly determining that her limited mobility suggested a kidnapping.
Investigation Findings
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos disclosed new information about the case during a press conference. He confirmed that DNA tests revealed blood found on Nancy’s porch belonged to her. This discovery led to early assumptions that she was the victim of foul play.
Alarmingly, Nancy’s doorbell camera had been disabled, and her pacemaker app was disconnected in the early hours when she likely was taken. Despite five days of searching, investigators have not confirmed proof of life or identified any persons of interest. Sheriff Nanos stated, “We believe Nancy is still out there. We want her home.”
Ransom Notes and FBI Involvement
The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information that could lead to Nancy’s safe return or the arrest of her abductors. They are treating a ransom letter received by media outlets as serious, although they haven’t had further contact with her captors. The letter allegedly demanded a ransom in the millions, payable in cryptocurrency, and included personal details about Nancy.
- First ransom deadline: 5 PM Thursday (local time)
- Second deadline: Monday
FBI special agent Heith Janke emphasized the unusual nature of this case, noting that, typically, there would be communication from kidnappers by now. The absence of such contact raises concerns.
Urgent Plea for Communication
Camron Guthrie, Nancy’s son, recently made an emotional appeal in a video posted on Savannah’s Instagram, urging her captors to reach out to the family. Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of NBC’s Today show, also urged for communication, expressing the need for confirmation of her mother’s safety.
With Nancy’s health dependent on daily medication, the FBI has conveyed that her well-being could be at serious risk while she’s in captivity. As the investigation unfolds, authorities continue to enhance their resources, hoping to recover Nancy soon.
