SAQ Restocks U.S. Products on Shelves
Starting February 12, the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) will restock certain American products nearing expiration. This initiative aims to clear existing inventory while generating an estimated $9 million in revenue. The funds raised will directly benefit food banks across Quebec.
Details on the Restocking Initiative
Finance Minister Eric Girard announced this significant decision via LinkedIn. The SAQ will sell selected American products, which could potentially lose quality by March 2027. The initiative focuses on specific items, including clear glass bottles, alcoholic creams, and sakés.
Sales Conditions and Discounts
This exceptional measure is a response from the Quebec government amidst ongoing trade tensions with the United States. However, it does not indicate a shift back to regular imports of American goods. The SAQ clarified that the ban on selling products that do not meet established criteria, and the complete prohibition on ordering new American products imposed on March 4, 2025, remains intact.
- Discount of 15% on all returning American products.
- Additional 5% discount on purchases of 6 to 11 bottles.
- 10% discount on orders of 12 bottles or more.
These discounts will only apply to purchases made online or at SAQ Dépôt locations. Quebec’s Food Banks organization welcomed this announcement, emphasizing the relief it brings to their network amid unprecedented demand.
American products had previously been removed from SAQ shelves in March 2025 due to tariff-related conflicts. More updates on the initiative will be available soon on Filmogaz.com.
