Poll Reveals Strong Voter Support for Impeaching Kristi Noem

Recent polling from Data for Progress indicates a significant portion of the electorate supports the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. According to the survey, conducted between January 30 and February 2, a growing backlash stems from her administration’s actions, particularly in relation to the fatal incidents involving DHS agents.

Polling Results Highlight Public Discontent

The poll reveals that 52 percent of likely voters advocate for Noem’s impeachment, while only 36 percent oppose it. This translates to a notable 16-point margin favoring her removal.

Support Breakdown Among Voter Demographics

  • Democrats: A striking 80 percent support impeachment.
  • Independents: 54 percent are in favor.
  • Republicans: 21 percent also echo this sentiment.

Context Behind the Calls for Impeachment

This surge in impeachment support comes in the wake of the controversial killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good by DHS agents. Critics have labeled these incidents as executions, fueling public outrage. In light of these events, dozens of Democratic lawmakers have backed the impeachment articles, leading to a total of 182 co-sponsors in the House.

Accusations Against Noem

The impeachment articles against Noem accuse her of multiple infractions:

  • Obstructing Congress
  • Violating public trust
  • Self-dealing

Moreover, recent legal analyses indicate that Noem and her agency may be violating constitutional rights. A notable op-ed from former DHS general counsels criticizes the agency for attempting to bypass the Fourth Amendment, while a federal judge accused her of ignoring the First Amendment during actions taken against pro-Palestine student activists.

Democratic Efforts to Impeach

On Tuesday, Democrats organized a rally urging Noem’s impeachment or resignation. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York) has emphasized that the caucus is rallying support for the impeachment articles. Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) firmly stated, “If Kristi Noem does not resign and the president doesn’t fire her, Democrats are ready and willing to impeach her.”

Reactions to Related Immigration Policies

The poll did not only focus on Noem. It also revealed that 51 percent of respondents want the removal of Stephen Miller, a key immigration adviser to former President Donald Trump, following the recent killings linked to the DHS. Support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has declined sharply as well—dropping from roughly 50 percent in January 2025 to just 39 percent now, while disapproval surged from 36 percent to 58 percent among voters.

As discussions around imposition of checks on federal agencies and their leadership continue, Kristi Noem remains a primary focus of public and political scrutiny.
