Canada Replaces Brayden Point with Seth Jarvis for Olympic Team
On Thursday, Canada announced a significant change to its Olympic men’s hockey roster. Brayden Point has been replaced by Seth Jarvis.
Seth Jarvis Joins Olympic Team
Seth Jarvis, a forward for the Carolina Hurricanes, was considered one of the notable exclusions from the original roster. Despite recovering from a rib injury, his absence was unexpected. Jarvis has made impressive strides in his performance, tallying 25 goals and 18 assists, totaling 43 points in 48 games this season.
Previous Representations
Jarvis previously represented Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off, contributing one assist in three games. This will mark his third appearance in international competitions, having played for Canada Red at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in 2018-19.
Brayden Point’s Status
Brayden Point, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning, has been sidelined with a lower-body injury since January 12. Although he participated in an optional skate on Thursday, a final decision regarding his availability for the Olympics is pending, as confirmed by head coach Jon Cooper.
Canada’s Olympic Hockey Ambitions
Team Canada aims to maintain its dominance in international hockey. The squad has claimed gold medals in the last two Olympic tournaments featuring NHL players, in 2010 and 2014. They also triumphed at the recent 4 Nations Face-Off.
