GO Trains Remain on Reduced Schedule Thursday Amid Ongoing Track Repairs
Commuters using GO trains should prepare for continued disruptions on Thursday. This follows a recent incident where a train partially derailed while exiting Toronto’s Union Station.
Incident Overview
On Monday at 8:16 a.m., during the rush hour, a train traveling west encountered a switch signal issue. This malfunction caused the rear of the train to leave the tracks, resulting in significant delays.
Track Repairs and Service Impact
Following the derailment, the provincial transit agency, Metrolinx, reported that crews worked throughout Monday to remove the disabled train and address the damaged track. On Wednesday, Metrolinx confirmed that ongoing repairs would affect services well into Thursday morning.
In a statement, Metrolinx indicated, “Our crews are working around the clock to repair track and signal damage, and return some affected services.” However, they also warned that repairs would take longer than initially expected, delaying the restoration of full services.
