In the latest BIG EAST weekly honors, UConn’s Allie Ziebell received her first Player of the Week accolade for this season. Meanwhile, Creighton’s Neleigh Gessert was recognized as Freshman of the Week for the second time.

BIG EAST Player of the Week: Allie Ziebell

Allie Ziebell, a sophomore guard from UConn, showcased an impressive performance, averaging 22.0 points per game. Her shooting stats were remarkable, achieving a .667 field goal percentage, .632 from three-point range, and .800 from the free-throw line. Ziebell led UConn to victories over Xavier and No. 15 Tennessee. Notably, she tied the UConn record for made three-pointers in a game (10), and set a new record for most points by a reserve player in a game, scoring 34 points in a 97-39 win against Xavier. She concluded the week with 10 points in a 96-66 triumph against Tennessee.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week: Neleigh Gessert

Creighton’s freshman guard Neleigh Gessert also impressed, averaging 16.5 points during her team’s two wins over St. John’s and Seton Hall. In her first game of the week, Gessert scored 17 points with a shooting percentage of 46% in the Bluejays’ 81-51 victory against St. John’s. She followed this up with 16 points in a 72-66 win at Seton Hall, including 12 points from beyond the arc.

  • Sarah Strong (UConn, So., F): Averaged 25.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists, with standout performances of 25 points against Xavier and 26 points against Tennessee.
  • Halle Vice (Marquette, Jr., G): Averaged 15.0 points and 12.0 rebounds, securing a double-double in victories over DePaul and Georgetown.
  • Daniela Abies (St. John’s, R-Jr., F): Recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Providence.
  • Savannah Catalon (Seton Hall, Jr., G): Averaged 16.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals, scoring 17 points in a win against Georgetown.
