Strategic Shift Toward Digital Banking

As part of this strategic change, Santander has aimed to cater to the growing preference for digital banking. A significant percentage, 96%, of all transactions are now conducted through digital channels. This marks a considerable increase in online banking adoption.

Despite the branch closures, Santander continues to invest heavily in its physical infrastructure. Over the past six years, the bank has refurbished more than 220 locations. An additional 30 branches are scheduled for upgrades in the coming year.

A Santander UK spokesperson remarked, “In response to the substantial shift toward digital banking, we are adapting our branches to better meet customer needs.” This commitment includes further investment in various branch types, such as full-service branches and counter-free locations. Santander aims to support customers regardless of their banking preferences.
