Drake Maye Injury Update: Why Patriots QB Skipped Friday Practice

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye did not participate in practice on Friday due to illness, confirmed head coach Mike Vrabel. His absence was not attributed to his existing shoulder injury, which he managed during the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos.

Drake Maye’s Health Status

During Friday’s press conference, Vrabel stated, “He did not practice, no. It was illness and shoulder.” Despite his non-participation, Maye attended meetings at Gillette Stadium. Vrabel indicated that, had Maye not fallen ill, he would have practiced despite the shoulder issue.

Practice Participation and Injury Context

Maye, 23, participated in a limited capacity on Thursday as part of the Patriots’ preparations. His shoulder responded favorably to the previous day’s workload. During the AFC Championship, Maye played all 64 offensive snaps, contributing to a crucial 10-7 victory, despite feeling “bumps and bruises” afterward.

Neither Maye nor Vrabel expressed significant concern about his situation. Maye commented on the challenges of the long season, saying, “I’ll do whatever I can to feel 100%.” He emphasized his commitment to contribute to the team’s success.

Other Missing Players

  • Offensive tackle Thayer Munford Jr.
  • Linebacker Robert Spillane
  • Linebacker Harold Landry

All three players were also absent during the early part of Friday’s practice. The Patriots are set to release their final injury report before departing for Santa Clara for Super Bowl LX on Sunday.
