Maria Tatjana, the top-seeded player from Germany, has praised the organization of the inaugural Philippine Women’s Open (PWO). She expressed her admiration after winning her first-round match against French player Leolia Jeanjean. Tatjana secured victory with a scoreline of 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

During her remarks late Tuesday night, Tatjana highlighted the exceptional organization of the tournament. “It is super nice. I think everybody agrees with me that the tournament seems to have existed for years. It is so well-organized,” she stated. At this event, she also enjoyed the renowned Filipino hospitality.

She described her match against Jeanjean as challenging, lasting two hours and 23 minutes. “I knew it was going to be a tough match because I have played her already a few times. She is a strong player, too,” Tatjana remarked. She also emphasized the humid conditions, adding, “We were both sweating a lot.”
Looking Ahead: Quarterfinal Aspirations
This marked Tatjana’s first visit to Manila, and she is aiming for a deep run in the tournament. She is scheduled to face Tatiana Prozorova from Russia in the next round. Prozorova achieved her place in the quarterfinals by defeating Filipina wildcard Kaye Ann Emana, 6-1, 6-0, on the same night.
