BC Parks Raises Camping Fees and Adds Non-Resident Surcharge

Starting May 15, 2026, BC Parks will implement a new camping fee structure, marking the first increase in over ten years. This change includes a surcharge specifically for non-residents visiting the province.

Details of the Fee Increase

Non-resident campers will face an additional fee of $20 for various camping options. These include:

  • Frontcountry camping
  • Backcountry trips
  • Cabin rentals
  • Mooring buoys

Currently, approximately 15% of BC Parks users come from outside British Columbia.

Overall Camping Fee Adjustments

The fee increases will affect 59 popular frontcountry parks and four backcountry parks. However, fees will remain unchanged at 388 other locations across the province.

Among the parks facing increased fees are:

  • Bear Creek
  • EC Manning
  • Ellison
  • Fintry
  • Kekuli Bay
  • Mabel Lake
  • Okanagan Lake
  • Wells Gray

Impacts on B.C. Residents

B.C. residents can expect an average fee rise of 40 cents per night in the shoulder season and $13.29 during the summer months. The average nightly fee is projected to be:

Season Average Nightly Rate
Shoulder Season $30.81
Summer $42.91

Previously capped at $35 per night, the new maximum fee will reach $51 for particularly high-demand areas.

Growth and Sustainability in BC Parks

Over the past six years, B.C. Parks has seen a remarkable 30% increase in visitation, totaling more than 27 million visits annually. The 59 affected frontcountry parks have experienced a 40% surge in visitors over the last decade.

According to Louise Pedersen of the Outdoor Recreation Council of B.C., parks and trails are essential public resources that enhance community health and support local economies. The province believes that targeted reinvestment in the parks system will ensure that these benefits continue to be available for British Columbians.

Camping reservations can now be made three months in advance, providing better access planning for all visitors.
