Automaker Pledges Commitment to CarPlay Integration
Volvo is reaffirming its commitment to Apple CarPlay integration in its vehicles. Anders Bell, the Chief Engineering and Technology Officer of Volvo, has confirmed in a recent interview that the automaker will “absolutely” continue to support both CarPlay and Android Auto in its lineup, including electric vehicles (EVs).
Volvo’s Dedication to Digital Integration
Bell emphasized that integrating CarPlay is part of Volvo’s approach to enhance the digital experience for its customers. “We need to adapt to you, whatever your digital ecosystem is as a customer,” he stated.
Future of CarPlay and Android Auto
While Volvo is committed to CarPlay, there are uncertainties regarding support for CarPlay Ultra. Volvo was initially identified as a partner for CarPlay Ultra by Apple, but a Financial Times report last year indicated that the automaker chose not to proceed with that support.
In the current context, Bell mentioned that Volvo has developed a sophisticated integration of Apple CarPlay. “We should have the best supremely good integration,” he noted, highlighting the automaker’s aim to offer a native experience with its infotainment system while accommodating customer preferences.

In contrast, other automakers are taking different stances on CarPlay. For example, General Motors has decided to remove CarPlay from its vehicles, while Ford has reiterated its commitment to the platform.
This commitment by Volvo stands as a significant move in the automotive landscape, where digital integration plays a crucial role in consumer choice. As electric vehicle adoption rises and the demand for connectivity in cars increases, Volvo aims to lead with user-focused technology solutions.
