Additional Opportunities for Younger Children
Parents with children nearing two years of age should also apply for free early learning and childcare programs. The eligibility criteria for two-year-olds can be found on the Council’s website.
Wraparound Care Options
Once places are confirmed, parents may discuss purchasing additional hours—referred to as wraparound care—with their chosen nursery or childminder. Availability of these extra hours is dependent on the capacity of the provider.
Supporting Early Childhood Development
Councillor Emma Rodden, Convener of Education and Children’s Services, highlighted the importance of nursery and childcare settings. She stated that these environments enhance children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Furthermore, they provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Rodden emphasized the role of staff in tailoring learning experiences to children’s individual interests, bolstering their confidence and self-esteem. She encouraged parents to witness the value of these early childhood experiences in fostering confident young individuals.
