The Traitors Returns: New BBC Series Premieres Soon

The excitement continues for fans of “The Traitors” as a new series is set to premiere soon. BBC One will launch “The Traitors Ireland” on January 24, shortly after the conclusion of the UK version’s fourth season.

The Traitors Ireland: Series Premiere Details

Hosted by Siobhan McSweeney, known for her role in “Derry Girls,” this spin-off will feature similar gameplay dynamics as its predecessors. The show originally aired on RTÉ One in 2025, and its first episode will be available at midnight on January 24, just after the UK series finale on January 23.

Game Format and Contestants

  • 24 contestants participate in a murder mystery scenario.
  • Three players will be designated as Traitors, working to remain undetected.
  • The remaining players, known as the Faithfuls, must identify the Traitors and accumulate a prize pot.

Contestants face weekly eliminations, creating intense gameplay as they strive to protect their identities and secure the prize money. While players in “The Traitors UK” can win up to £120,000, “The Traitors Ireland” offers a maximum prize of €50,000 (approximately £43,000).

Filming and Reception

This new series is set in Slane Castle, County Meath, located about an hour north of Dublin. In early 2024, the series was officially announced, with McSweeney confirmed as the host by December. Filming took place in mid-2025.

According to reports, the show quickly gained popularity, breaking into the top 10 TV shows in Ireland with an average audience of over 800,000 viewers, which is significant considering the country’s population.

Availability and Streaming

Viewers will soon be able to stream “The Traitors Ireland” alongside other versions, including:

  • The Traitors UK
  • The Traitors US
  • The Traitors Australia
  • The Traitors New Zealand

However, “The Traitors Canada” is not currently available for streaming on BBC iPlayer.

Anticipated Audience Response

The BBC is hopeful for strong viewership numbers in the UK, aiming for figures reminiscent of the Irish audience’s reception. With approximately 15% of Ireland’s population tuning in, the potential audience in the UK could be massive.

Mark your calendars to watch “The Traitors Ireland” on January 24 on BBC One. This new chapter promises to deliver the same thrilling twists and turns that fans have come to love!
