49ers Explore Electrical Substation Link in Injury Investigation

The San Francisco 49ers are intensifying their investigation into the factors behind their persistent injury issues. General Manager John Lynch announced that the team will examine all potential causes, including a viral theory suggesting that an electrical substation near their training facility may be linked to these injuries.

Investigation into Injury Causes

During a press conference, Lynch stated, “Because it deals with, allegedly, the health and safety of our players, I think you have to look into everything.” The decision to explore this avenue comes amid the team’s long-standing injury troubles, now extending over a decade.

Electrical Substation Theory

One particular theory posits that the electrical substation’s electromagnetic fields (EMF) could be affecting player health. Although this claim has been largely dismissed by experts, Lynch insists the organization will thoroughly investigate all possibilities. He noted the need for credible studies, beyond simple measurements that lack scientific backing.

History of the Training Facility

The 49ers have trained in Santa Clara, California, since the late 1980s, with the substation built shortly after. An expansion of this facility occurred in 2014, coinciding with the launch of Levi’s Stadium.

Focus on Injury Prevention

Alongside exploring the electrical substation link, the team will review their injury management and prevention strategies comprehensively. Lynch emphasized the importance of looking at every contributing factor to ensure player safety.

Recent Injury Concerns

The 49ers faced significant setbacks during the last season, losing several key players to injuries. Notable names include:

  • Fred Warner
  • Nick Bosa
  • George Kittle

In total, 20 players ended up on the reserve list. Quarterback Brock Purdy also missed games due to turf toe, while Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings were out for numerous weeks.

As they move forward, the 49ers are dedicated to addressing all injury-related issues, striving to protect their players and enhance overall team performance.
