Blizzard and Snow Squall Warnings Issued for Ontario Regions

Ontario is preparing for a severe winter weather event as blizzard and snow squall warnings are issued across several regions. The southern and central parts of the province are particularly affected.

Blizzard Warnings in Effect

An orange-level blizzard warning has been declared for ten regions, including:

  • Bruce Peninsula
  • Goderich
  • Hanover
  • Niagara Falls
  • Northern Perth County
  • Southern Perth County

Environment Canada warns of blizzard conditions, with visibility dropping to near-zero. Western winds are expected to gust between 70 and 90 kilometers per hour, creating wind chills as low as -20 to -25 degrees Celsius.

Snow Accumulation Forecast

Most regions can expect snowfall totals ranging from 10 to 25 centimeters. However, the Bruce Peninsula and Owen Sound might see between 20 and 40 centimeters of snow.

Snow Squall Warnings Issued

Snow squalls are forecasted to begin on Monday morning, leading to blizzard conditions later in the day. These snow squalls will likely continue into Tuesday morning.

Regions not under a blizzard warning are still facing challenges. Snow squall warnings, marked at a yellow level, are active for areas including:

  • Windsor-Essex
  • Chatham-Kent
  • Norfolk County
  • Kitchener
  • Kingston
  • Barrie
  • Parry Sound
  • Manitoulin Island

Travel Advisory

Residents in these areas are advised to prepare for significantly reduced visibility due to blowing snow. Snowfall totals could reach 10 to 20 centimeters, with Parry Sound and Orillia potentially seeing 20 to 40 centimeters or more.

Ontarians are urged to exercise caution while traveling, as roads and walkways may be very difficult to navigate due to snow accumulation.
