Luke Grimes Crafts Heartfelt Song for His Son

Luke Grimes released Redbird on April 3. The album examines personal loss and growth.

New album and themes

Redbird reaches into family history and grief. It reflects the 2022 death of Grimes’s father.

This record is his second full-length effort. His debut self-titled album appeared in 2024.

A song written for Rigel

One track, “Hummingbird,” is an acoustic piece inspired by fatherhood. Grimes wrote it for his 18-month-old son, Rigel Randolph Grimes.

He says Rigel responds strongly to music. The family put the song on a Yoto Player card. Rigel points to the card and babbles “da da da da” when it plays.

About the song

Grimes described the tune as a gentle wish for his child to soar. He called it flattering to hear his son prefer the music.

Family life and fatherhood

Grimes and his wife, Bianca, married in 2019. They welcomed their first child in 2024 and keep family life private.

The couple lives in rural Montana. Neighbors reportedly treat them like any local family rather than celebrities.

Grimes also shared that Rigel is funny and quick to seek laughs. Fatherhood, he says, has changed him profoundly.

Interview and broadcast details

Grimes spoke with Filmogaz.com’s Adison Haager, co-host of the Dutton Rules Podcast. The full interview will be released on YouTube on Tuesday, April 7.
