West Brom Vs Charlton end 1-1 as Baggies stretch winless run to 10 games
In a game billed as west brom vs charlton, Charlton rescued a 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns when Lyndon Dykes raced onto Kayne Ramsay’s pass and finished between Max O’Leary’s legs on 70 minutes to earn the visitors a point.
Albion dominant early but only led at the break
George Campbell put West Brom in front in first-half stoppage time, heading home Alex Mowatt’s corner at the back post to send the hosts in one-up at the break. The opener capped a dominant first half for Albion, who had more than 60% possession and six shots to Charlton’s one. Campbell had earlier seen an awkward chance saved from close range and Charlie Taylor flashed a volley narrowly off-target, while Max O’Leary was called into action to save Harry Clarke’s speculative strike.
Missed chances cost the Baggies and pressure grows on Eric Ramsay
West Brom spurned several clear openings after the interval. Josh Maja was sent one-on-one by a delightful Mowatt through ball in the 52nd minute but slid his finish wide, and Isaac Price somehow blazed over from inside the area after a good run and pass from Jayson Molumby in the 69th minute. The draw extended Albion’s Championship winless run to 10 games and left the Baggies 21st in the table, just one point above the relegation zone. Head coach Eric Ramsay, who has been in charge for the last eight matches, said it was a game the side should have won, that they created good chances and had territory at the top of the opposition’s box but lacked decisiveness and were sloppy defensively.
West Brom Vs Charlton: Charlton’s reply and Jones’ reaction
Charlton’s leveller came when Dykes ran on to a ball over the top from Ramsay and calmly slotted under O’Leary 20 minutes from full-time; it was Dykes’ second goal for the club. Manager Nathan Jones called it “a good point” but said Charlton were flat in the first half, that a travel issue before the game may have coincided with a poor opening 45, and that the team improved only after he changed shape and personnel in the second half. Jones praised Dykes’ run, touch and finish and added that the side showed character to come back and get a point, though overall performance levels needed to improve.
Injuries, line-up details and late chances
Charlton’s 2024/25 Player of the Year Lloyd Jones had to be substituted in the 35th minute with what looked like an ankle injury; Nathan Jones said the central defender would need to be assessed before he could provide an update on the severity. West Brom’s starting line-up was listed as: O’Leary, Campbell (Imray 84), Phillips, Taylor, Styles, Diakite (Wallace 74), Mowatt, Molumby, Price (Jimoh-Aloba), Maja (Heggebø 65), Johnston. Substitutes named were Wallis, Bielik, Gilchrist, Bostock and Dike. After Charlton’s equaliser, Mowatt and substitute Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba went close late on, while Nat Phillips and Charlie Taylor headed crosses over earlier in the second half.
Charlton’s draw was their 11th of the season, leaving them 17th on 41 points from 34 games. The match ended level after both sides had chances to win late on.
