school closings ct and the forecast
Forecasts call for another 1 to 3 inches of snow Wednesday morning, a factor cited by officials when announcing the closure. If that additional snow arrives during school arrival times, it could slow ongoing removal work and complicate efforts to reopen safely. The district completed most school lot plowing and is continuing snow removal efforts, with crews set to finish remaining lots after a city parking ban is lifted.
Parking ban and snow removal operations
A citywide parking ban that began Sunday remained in effect to allow plows and removal crews access to public spaces; an email/text alert from the mayor at 7: 00 p. m. Tuesday ET stated the ban will be lifted at 6: 00 p. m. Wednesday ET. Officials asked residents who parked vehicles in public school lots to remove them by that time so crews can finish clearing the lots before the planned school start on Thursday.
District staff described snow removal as a separate step from plowing: crews load snow into dump trucks and move it to nonpopulated parks and underutilized lots. Work will focus on downtown removal during overnight hours, with daytime operations shifting to other neighborhoods. Officials emphasized the volume and weight of the storm’s snow across more than 235 miles of roadway and asked residents to clear walkways, curb cuts, fire hydrants and bus stops near their properties where possible.
