A mega millions jackpot winner has the option of taking an annuity or a cash payment; the cash option for the Feb. 20 jackpot was listed at $193. 1 million. The annuity is paid as one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments, each 5% larger than the previous one. Non-jackpot prizes are boosted by a built-in multiplier that can increase winnings by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times, and the ticket price is $5 per play, which includes that multiplier.
The game requires players to pick five white-ball numbers from 1 to 70 and one Mega Ball from 1 to 24; the Mega Ball pool was reduced from 25 as part of rule changes implemented on April 8, 2025. Short of the jackpot, matching only the Mega Ball wins at least $10, and matching all five white balls (except in California) awards a minimum of $2 million.

Tickets can be purchased in-person at retail locations and in many states online; in Michigan, in-store and online sales close at 10: 45 p. m. on the night of the draw. If more than one ticket matches the jackpot numbers in the same drawing, the prize is divided equally among winning tickets.
The Powerball jackpot at the time of the Feb. 20 drawing was noted at $190 million with a cash option of $88. 5 million, and the most recent prior Mega Millions jackpot win mentioned occurred Dec. 2, when a New Jersey player won $90 million.
