The 5th Annual Livingston County Rosa Parks Transit Equity Day Breakfast and Community Discussion is approaching this week. Hosted by the Livingston County Transportation Coalition, the event invites various community members, including residents, transportation workers, and local leaders.

Event Details

This year’s gathering will take place on Wednesday, February 4th, from 8 AM to 9:30 AM at Cleary University in Genoa Township. The breakfast is complimentary and aims to foster a constructive dialogue about public transportation needs in the county.

Purpose of the Event

The event has two main objectives:

  • To celebrate advancements in transportation access across Livingston County.
  • To gather community insights that can facilitate effective and sustainable public transportation solutions.

Discussion Topics

Organizers emphasize the importance of diverse voices in shaping transportation initiatives. Mark Hymes, the Chair of the Livingston County Rosa Parks Transit Equity Day Committee, highlighted the impact of transportation access on workforce participation and healthcare. He stressed the need for continued public input to address the growing demand for services.

Agenda

The event will feature several key components, including:

  • Welcome address by Cleary University, the event sponsor.
  • Keynote speech.
  • Presentation on the State of LETS Transportation.
  • Special video from LETS Public Transportation.
  • Recognition of municipalities that observed Rosa Parks Transit Equity Day.
  • Open dialogue during the Liv.Well Community Conversation.

Community Engagement

The Coalition stresses that the discussion is not about imposing solutions but about gathering valuable feedback from participants. This collaborative approach helps elucidate the community’s transportation priorities while acknowledging budgetary limitations.

Additional Transportation Services

In addition to LETS, several local services assist residents, including:

  • People’s Express based in Whitmore Lake.
  • Western-Washtenaw Area Value Express (WAVE).
  • Michigan Flyer with a new stop at the park-and-ride in Whitmore Lake.

Future Plans

The Coalition is also updating the 2019 Livingston County Transit Master Plan to incorporate expanded public transportation options. This illustrates their commitment to improving mobility solutions within the community.
