LaCombe Joins Team USA as Jones Exits Olympic Roster
Defenseman Jackson LaCombe has officially joined Team USA for the upcoming Olympic Games. His selection comes as forward Josh Jones exits the roster, creating space for LaCombe’s inclusion.
Jackson LaCombe’s Performance and Background
LaCombe, 25, is having a noteworthy season, accumulating 31 points through six goals and 25 assists across 49 games. He was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round, 39th overall, during the 2019 NHL Draft.
In total, LaCombe has recorded 91 points, including 22 goals and 69 assists, over 197 regular-season NHL games. His experience includes winning a gold medal with Team USA at the 2025 World Championships.
Olympic Participation and Preparation
Although LaCombe did not participate in the 4 Nations Face-Off last season, he expressed excitement about being part of the Olympic Orientation Camp last August. He noted he wasn’t focused on making the team but valued the experience and the opportunity to meet fellow players.
Olympics Structure and Team USA Schedule
This Olympic tournament marks the first time NHL players will represent the United States since 2014. The event will include 12 teams competing in three preliminary games within their groups.
- The three group winners and the best second-place team will advance directly to the quarterfinals.
- The remaining eight teams will engage in single-elimination matches to determine the final quarterfinalists.
The gold medal match is scheduled for February 22. Team USA, placed in Group C, will kick off its Olympic journey against Team Latvia on February 12. They are also set to face Team Denmark on February 14 and Team Germany on February 15.
History of Team USA in Men’s Hockey
The United States men’s hockey team has not captured a gold medal since the 1980 Winter Olympics held in Lake Placid, New York. Team USA is eager to change that narrative in this upcoming competition.
