Snow Alert: NYC, Tri-State Area Issued Travel Advisory for Sunday’s Storm
New York City is poised for another round of snowfall, prompting the issuance of a travel advisory for Sunday. The National Weather Service predicts that the city and its neighboring areas will receive between 1 to 3 inches of snow.
City Preparations for Upcoming Snow
NYC Emergency Management is mobilizing resources to confront the winter weather. Departments have initiated measures such as pre-treating roads and bridges. They are also staging tow trucks to assist with any incidents on the road.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced, “We already have close to 1,000 sanitation workers ready, equipped with over 700 salt spreaders and 44 dedicated to bike lanes. By Sunday morning, this will increase to approximately 2,000 sanitation workers.”
Weather Impacts and Community Response
Residents are warned that Sunday’s snow is likely to accumulate more than the previous snowfall due to falling temperatures. As preparations intensify, local business owners have been out clearing their sidewalks.
- Ruben Munoz, a 30-year New York resident, expressed, “It’s very easy, very light. Today, using a shovel seems easier than pulling out our snow machine.”
- Residents also flocked to hardware stores like Marden Hardware on Yonkers Avenue to stock up on salt and shovels.
Ray Prati, a hardware store employee, commented on the conditions, stating, “That might be a problem with the ice, as it seems pretty cold.”
New Jersey Weather Alerts
The weather situation extends to New Jersey, where multiple counties are under snow alerts. These areas are expected to experience 1 to 4 inches of snow from consecutive winter storms.
In Caldwell, residents have begun clearing their properties after Saturday’s snowfall. Salt trucks and plows are actively working to keep the roads clear, while many locals enjoy the scenes of wintery beauty.
Graham Betros shared his thoughts, remarking, “I think it’s pretty nice. Glad we got a light day today, so it’s a little easier to scoop up.”
Flight Impacts and Travel Safety
The inclement weather has also affected Newark Airport operations, where crews are de-icing planes to maintain flight schedules. The New Jersey Department of Transportation has urged residents to grant space to road crews and to avoid non-essential travel during this period.
As the snowstorm approaches, residents are encouraged to stay informed and exercise caution while navigating the wintry conditions. All storm-related updates can be accessed through local government websites and by calling 311 for assistance.
