Former Thunderbirds Star Theodore Represents Canada at Olympics
Shea Theodore, a notable alumnus of the Seattle Thunderbirds, will proudly represent Canada at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Competing in the men’s ice hockey tournament, Theodore aims to secure a gold medal for his country. The 30-year-old defenseman currently plays for the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights.
Canada’s Olympic Ambitions
On February 12, Canada will commence its Olympic campaign against Czechia. Considered a strong contender for the gold medal, Canada’s roster boasts elite players, including:

- Nathan MacKinnon from the Colorado Avalanche

The tournament will have 12 teams competing in three preliminary games. The highest seeds will advance directly to the quarterfinals, while the rest will enter qualification playoffs leading to the knockout rounds and ultimately the gold medal game, scheduled for February 22.
Theodore’s Journey to the Olympics
Shea Theodore hails from Aldergrove, British Columbia. He played for the Seattle Thunderbirds from 2010 to 2015. After a successful collegiate career, Theodore was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the 2013 NHL Draft. He returned to the Thunderbirds for two seasons before moving to the Ducks and later being traded to the Golden Knights in 2017.
Recently, Theodore played a pivotal role in helping the Golden Knights capture their first Stanley Cup title in the 2022-23 season. He recorded 13 points during the playoffs, contributing significantly to the championship victory.
The Future for Other Thunderbirds
Another former Thunderbirds player, Alexander True, will represent Denmark in the Olympic Games. True, now 28 years old, will start his Olympic journey against Germany on February 12. Standing at 6-foot-5, he played for the Thunderbirds from 2014 to 2017 and has professional experience in both the NHL and Denmark.
