Patriots’ Drake Maye Receives Injection for Injury Ahead of Super Bowl
Drake Maye, quarterback for the New England Patriots, faced challenges leading up to Super Bowl 60 due to a shoulder injury. This injury originated during the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos on January 25. Prior to the Super Bowl, Maye received an injection to alleviate pain in his shoulder.
Injury Details
Following the Patriots’ 29-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Maye revealed that he had “shot it up” to numb the injury. He stated, “It felt all right,” but was uncertain if the injury affected his performance during the game. Despite feeling capable enough to play, he acknowledged, “Just didn’t make plays tonight.”
Super Bowl Week Preparation
In the buildup to the Super Bowl, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel downplayed concerns about Maye’s shoulder. He noted that Maye’s shoulder was responding well to treatment. Although Maye missed practice on January 30 due to a brief illness, he returned as a full participant for the rest of the week.
Performance Metrics
- AFC Championship Game: 10-of-21 for 86 yards
- Super Bowl: 295 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, 3 turnovers
- Sacked 6 times against the Seahawks
Season Performance Comparison
Maye’s last two games, particularly against the Broncos and Seahawks, were notably below his season standards. While the weather conditions during the Broncos game posed challenges, the injury may have contributed to decreased performance. There is currently no indication that his shoulder injury will impact offseason preparations.
