Celebrini Set for Major Role with Team Canada at Olympics

Macklin Celebrini is making history as the first teenager to represent Team Canada in an Olympics featuring NHL players. He has joined Team Canada for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, bringing excitement to fans and teammates alike.

Celebrini’s Historic Role with Team Canada

The 19-year-old Celebrini stepped into the dressing room just an hour before his inaugural practice. There, he learned he would share a line with superstar Connor McDavid, widely regarded as one of the best players in the world. Celebrini expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s fun. It’s great” after their first practice at Santagiulia Arena.

Practice Highlights

During the one-hour skating session, Celebrini lined up on the left wing, with McDavid at the center and Tom Wilson on the right. McDavid acknowledged the trio’s potential by commenting on their diverse skill sets and chemistry. “Definitely a good blend of different things, and together I think we’ll make a good line,” he remarked.

Coaching Insights

Head coach Jon Cooper is optimistic about the combination of skill, noting that it is still early in the team’s development. “There’s so many things that go into this, and that’s why it’s tough to answer these questions on the first day of practice,” Cooper said. He believes Celebrini’s unique abilities will be a significant asset during the tournament.

Age Is Just a Number

Despite his youth, Cooper emphasized Celebrini’s advanced understanding of the game. “He may be 19 years old physically, but his acumen for the game is not,” Cooper stated. The coach, who has closely followed Celebrini’s trajectory since the World Championships, highlighted his maturity on the ice.

Upcoming Challenges

The Canadian team will continue to refine their strategies through practice. They are preparing for their opening game against Czechia on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. ET at Santagiulia Arena, which will be available to watch on Peacock, USA, CBC Gem, and CBC.
